Spider Sends Prissy Girl Screaming

As Told to the Westler Valley Voice by Matta A. Rhymes

SCHOOLYARD, WESTLER  — This wasn't somethin' that happened to someone else in a land far, far away, my little rascals! Oh no! This was somethin' far more personal. This was somethin' that happened to me.

Growin' up, Ma and Pa worked their tails off to make ends meet. My sister, Lori, and I commonly wore tattered clothin' that was mended together by a patchwork of old shirts. We put our shoes on that were worn down to the soles, and my hair was commonly tossed about in every which direction.

It was a simple life, and you’d never hear me or my sister complain.

Then, in contrast, there was Miss Maggie Wentsfield. I’ll never forget the absurdity of her name. She was a girl in my school who was a year or two older than me. She had blue eyes which shone brightly against her flawless skin, and perfectly curled, golden ringlets that hugged her cheeks which had adorable dimples pressed into them every time she smiled.

All the boys wanted to bring her their prized treasures (often it was a frog or some strange who-knows-what) while all girls wanted to be her best friend. She was that girl.
