Stepsister Cracks More Than a Pail

As Told to the Westler Valley Voice by Matta A. Rhymes

THE BASKINS RESIDENCE, WESTLER — My little rascals, this story I'm about to tell revolves around second chances after seein' things a little different.

Miss Jill Baskins was a troublemaker. There's no two ways about that one. Many say it was because she didn't have a Pa figure. So, when her Ma got remarried and a stepbrother, her age, came with the deal, there was a sigh of relief that perhaps this bothersome child would calm down. Before this experience I'm about to tell you, I had my doubts, but by the end of this tale; I agreed with the town's thoughts that there was some hope for her.

Durin’ my afternoon walk, I was maybe half a mile away from Jill’s house when I saw her laughin’ at somethin’. The only time anyone’s ever known that girl to laugh was when she was up to no good.

So, I gave it a little better look-see when I watched a horrible scene play out. Jack, Jill’s new stepbrother, was on the ground collectin’ rocks when Jill started to kick some of them at him. Jack eventually sat up on his knees and rubbed the back of his head.

"This may seem like a funny thing to mention, but when I picked it up, the bucket had a large crown etched into the side and underneath it said ‘The Crown Company’. Not sure why I felt a need to tell you that, but I did."
