THE FAR END OF TOWN — The butcher shop sits at the far end of the main road, and you'll smell it before you're through the door — the smoke of the fire out back, cooking the cut of the day for sampling.
Behind the Counter
Mr. Demetrius Sharp — a gruff one. Grunts more than he greets, and heaven help the soul who takes something off his hooks without paying. But underneath all that scowl, he can be bargained with — those who've managed it say it takes a full money purse and an agitatingly friendly voice. Old-timers still talk fondly of Mr. Millows, the powder-haired gentleman who kept this counter a generation back, and who could keep a secret better than any soul in Westler.
On the Hooks
- Stew cuts — the famous ones. Half the suppers in Westler start at this counter.
- Smoked links and morning rashers
- Roasts for Sunday tables & holiday events
- Soup bones — ask sweetly and he'll throw one in for your hound
Current Special
The cold-weather stew bundle: cuts, bones, and Mr. Sharp's own advice on the matter, whether you asked for it or not.

Ducket Stories on the Counter
This shop turns up in Old Mother Goose, the way Matta tells it — "Ma took Lori and me to the butcher shop." It was Mr. Millows behind the counter in those days, not Mr. Sharp, and a man who could keep a secret that well was always going to end up in somebody's story.
