As Told to the Westler Valley Voice by Matta A. Rhymes
MERCANTILE, MAIN STREET — This rhyme often comes off a little nefarious or scandalous. Many want to put their own spin on it, if you asked me, my little rascals. I just think people are misunderstandin' what this tale is all about. So, please allow me a moment to shed some light on it for you now.
It'd been a really odd year - I mean really. That was the year of the 'ever-lastin' rain. It was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of rain, a flood your town and drift it off into oblivion kind of rain. Grain fields overflowed. Crops were destroyed. Houses were washed away. Peoples' and animals' lives were lost. It was a disaster unlike anyone had ever seen. We all struggled to stay afloat.
Let me assure you, Petra HATED that year!
I remember there was a brief break in all the stormin' that had been goin' on. In that short moment, I used it to sneak away to town for a couple of supply items. When I was in the mercantile lookin' at Ponta cookies, I overheard Farmer Pete Rennells in the next aisle over tellin' a strange tale of some odd happenin's.
