Smile Remembered
I lost my smile a year ago,
The moment I said yes,
Not to my beloved writing,
But to a desk and steady job,
I died that day,
My solitude killed me,
I killed me – a thousand times –
Every moment I wasn’t writing.
I had given my words up for adoption,
My notebooks collected dust on the shelf,
I could feel my heart harden in my chest,
All it left me with was a cold paycheck and a vague expression.
I had nothing,
I lost it all,
“And for what,” I asked
For all these worldly possessions?
Amongst these possessions I found my tombstone,
Engraved on it was –
“Another who lost her dreams”
What had I become…
To my surprise I found this path-
It caused my feet to walk,
Along the way I found this place,
Unlike any other I had ever seen.
It was strange yet comfortable,
I entered with ease,
People I had never met
Spoke the same unique language as me.
And as they spoke and their stories told,
I heard stories of myself,
They were the familiar and common occurrences
That found the smile that was hiding somewhere on my face.
It really was a place like no other,
Where words were gold and we were all rich and famous,
And it didn’t seem to matter what roads brought us here,
All that was important was the one road that would lead us out.
As much as I didn’t want to I had to get back on that road,
I have more journeys to discover
Every step I took away from this wonderful world
I wept at its disappearance.
Though journeys are long with many roads to take,
I believe my feet would bring me back to this utopia someday,
Where my family would be here with smiling faces,
And I would know that I am home.
Now — Go find your road.
