The Ice Cream Shop

Inside the Ice Cream Shop

MAIN STREET, WESTLER — Cold air rolls out the door of this place like a happy little winter that never learned about the calendar. It smells of sweet cream and waffle crisp, it sounds like spoons on glass dishes, and every child in Westler can find it blindfolded. Most of the grown folks too.

Behind the Counter

Mr. Wintle — a man who fills every glass and every dish to the tippy top, the only proper way. He knows every child's usual order and exactly which farm his cream came from that morning, and he considers a sprinkle shortage a town emergency.

In the Cold Case

  • Waka Melon — the famous one. When a fresh batch is churned, word travels faster than the Sheriff.
  • Chocolate with sprinkles — two scoops is the proper order, as any regular will tell you
  • Vanilla — for the gentle souls and the little lambs
  • Cold milk, filled to the tippy top

Current Special

The last-of-the-harvest Waka scoop, while the melons hold out — with a free extra spoon for anyone sharing with a critter. It happens more than you'd think in this town.

On the Notice Board

The Ice Cream Shop's chalkboard by the door

"Yes, the lamb may have a lick. No, the lamb may not have a dish." — There's one particular lamb behind that rule.

Ducket Stories on the Counter

Mr. Wintle knows every regular’s order, and Matta’s is two scoops of chocolate with sprinkles. She gets them on a day in town with Aunt Petunia in Old Mother Hubbard – a blue lace ribbon from the dress shop, a hunt for walking boots, and of course a stop at the ice cream shop, before a bottle in a shop window turns the whole day.
